Valentine's Art Projects for Kids: Easy Valentine's Crafts

Valentine's activities can be fun for the whole family. By making Valentine's Day art projects, your children can participate in decorating their rooms and your home. They can also make easy Valentine's crafts that they can give as gifts to their friends and family members. Here are some fun tips to get your kids involved with Valentine's activities.

Easy Valentine's Crafts for Kids
You will want to make your Valentine's Day art projects either more simple or more complex, depending on the ages of your children. For example, if you have young children, you may have to cut out hearts for them and assist in gluing materials. Older children can use scissors themselves and may come up with additional ideas that will add to your Valentine's activities.

Hearty Flowers
Your kids will love this funValentine's craft project. Here's what you'll need:

  • construction paper in shades of red, pink and green
  • crayons
  • glitter, perhaps in different colors
  • glue
  • markers, including a green marker
  • scissors
  • stickers
  • tongue depressors or craft sticks.

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Color the tongue depressors green and set them aside.
  2. Cut out hearts from the pink and red construction paper. Then, cut smaller hearts from the green construction paper. (You will need at least two green hearts for every pink and red heart.)
  3. Decorate the large hearts. You may choose to put names on the hearts if you are going to give them away to friends. Your kids may want to make special drawings on the hearts and decorate them with glitter.
  4. After you are finished decorating the hearts, let them dry.
  5. Glue a red or pink heart on the top of the depressors and add two or more heart leafs on the stick below.

Valentine's Flower Pots
Easy Valentine's crafts can get kids ready for spring's arrival. This project can be done relatively quickly, for those kids with short attention spans. For this project, you will need:

  • acrylic paint
  • glitter
  • glue
  • paint brushes
  • ribbons
  • small, unglazed clay pots.

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Decorate the pots by painting them with dots, lines, hearts or names. Your kids may want to add glitter for a bit of shine.
  2. Allow the pots to dry.
  3. After the pots have dried, you can plant small plants in them, or fill them with Valentine candy. You may wish to tie a bow under the rim of the pot for a finishing touch.

Valentine's Crafts: Valentine Gift Box

This project is really a potpourri of Valentine's art projects. The goal is to get your kids to decorate the outside of the box, and, if they have the stamina, the inside of the box. The size and duration of this project will be directly related to your kids ages and desire to decorate. You will need the following:

  • a shoe box with lid or a gift box than can be closed
  • construction paper in Valentine colors
  • crayons
  • fabric
  • glitter
  • glue
  • lollypops
  • markers
  • ribbon
  • scissors
  • stickers
  • tape
  • tissue paper
  • yarn.

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

    • First, you will have to glue a background layer of color on the box. This might be a mosaic of torn construction paper or strips of fabric.
    • After your kids have the basic background on their boxes, the sky is the limit! They can decorate the boxes with hearts or add splashes of glitter or tufted tissue paper that resembles flowers. You might also want to tape lollypops to the top of the box for extra fun.
    1. Let your Valentine gift box dry and then fill it with Valentine's cookies or candies. (Make sure that you line the interior of the box with plastic wrap before you load it with goodies, particularly is the interior of the box is decorated.)
